MORBID ANGEL will be heading to Europe the week of April 9th for a five-week European tour with ZYKLON and CADAVER INC. in support. Further to our report on former METALLICA bassist Jason Newsted's first public performance since leaving the group, several METALLICA fans that attended the MOSS BROTHERS gig at Ashkenaz in Berkeley, California this past Sunday&nbsp (April 1st)&nbsp have offered first-hand accounts of the post-show meet-and-greet session that took place at the small bar where the concert was held. According to those that were present at the scene, Jason didn't appear until after brothers Moss, Reuben and Evan, had a chance to sign stuff for everyone first, in a clear attempt to play down his involvement and avoid stealing the limelight from the duo. When he did eventually come out to chat with everyone, he reportedly sat down on the stage and signed the MOSS BROTHERS CD, shirts, set lists and anything and everything people put in front of him. When asked about his immediate plans, Newsted reportedly replied that “I am going to live my life. I couldn't live my life until now,” in what appeared to be a not-so-subtle jab at his former bandmates. Jason also indicated that his long-awaited solo project ECHOBRAIN, the one that allegedly led to his departure from METALLICA, would be released in August, adding 'I hope, I hope, I hope.' Jason seemed quite enthused about this project and reportedly smiled at the mention of it. When a fan asked him to sign the FLOTSAM &amp JETSAM CD Doomsday For The Deceiver CD, he reacted with amusement at seeing his old photo and was eager to show it to Reuben and Evan Moss. Asked whether he was the same age as Evan (15) at that time, Jason laughed and said 'Nah, I was about 20 or 21.' Jason then said that he wasn't as good as Evan when he was that young.&nbsp

Grindcore pioneers NAPALM DEATH have canceled their appearance at the New Jersey Metalfest in Asbury Park this coming weekend due to an illness contracted by drummer Danny Herrera. The band issued the following statement: 'Shortly before boarding the plane at the conclusion of our Asian tour, our drummer Danny Herrera became ill. As of this morning, Danny is still quite sick and it is apparent that he will not be able to travel for at least several days. Unfortunately, this means that we will not be performing at this weekend's Metalfest in New Jersey. We were very excited to finally return to the States to play and see all of our old friends. We would like to send apologies to the fans and to the staff of the Metalfest and thank them for their support of the band. We are looking forward to coming back in May…see you then!'

...

American fans of the band will not have to wait much longer to see NAPALM DEATH in action, as the band have announced details for their long-awaited North American return. The band will launch a 19-date tour, with support coming from SOILENT GREEN and ISIS.

ANATHEMA guitarist Danny Cavanagh has offered the following song-by-song rundown of the 11 tracks appearing on the group's forthcoming, as-yet-untitled studio effort, which is currently being recorded at Chapel and Windings Studios in the UK with producer Nick Griffiths.

...

01. Intro:

We like this one. Last thing to be written and first thing you'll hear. Still untitled as yet. Description? False sense of security.

...

02. Release:

The difficulties encountered by people with low self-esteem who rely on others with even less self-esteem. The dangers of falling in love then failing in life. The optimism that true expression can bring.

...

03. Looking Outside Inside:

Searching for something, anything that can stop the avalanche. You created it - you deal with it. It's difficult to talk. We need things.

...

04. Pressure:

Even if you're a millionaire on a paradise island, or the Pope in the Vatican, or even the drummer in a band, the one thing you can never escape is who you are and what you have done.

...

05. Underworld:

Trying to escape this and thinking that you are succeeding. Well you do don't you? Some people analyze themselves more than others. Some people just can't. Ego/concience/ego/concience ad infinitum.

...

06. Barriers:

Being lost then found and managing to get lost again. Trying to break through to the other side of everything that is wrong with you. Doing it with honesty and wisdom.

...

07. A Fleeting Glimpse:

Somewhere right at the back of your mind, underneath all the layers of personality and disharmony, there is a beautiful world. The essence of your precious existence. I caught it when I was a child. Out of the corner of my eye. Turned to look but it was gone.

...

08. Panic:

I eat my hands, 'cos my legs are crying.

...

09. Levity (working title):

Difficult to comment on this one as the words were changed last minute and I've not read the new ones. Hard to say what the old words were about too. Musical track ala JEFF BUCKLEY but not as gut-wrenching.

...

10. A Fine Day To Exit:

The only way is forward. Can't go backwards. A great up tempo track with great down beat lyrics! (And the lowest played guitar solo ever recorded - Dave)

...

11. Temporary Peace:

At the end of the day, if you've got your slippers on and you're sitting by the fire with some longbottom leaf and good company... all's well that ends well, isn't it?

HENRY ROLLINS is no longer recording for Dreamworks Records. No word yet as to what label the next release will be on.

KORN guitarist Brian “Head” Welch and Ryan Shuck from ORGY have started a clothing company. The company—called Replicant—is “American ROCK clothing”. According to an official statement, the guys “wanted to offer kids cool clothes that were affordable, and the result was Replicant. Not just phat, and not just futuristic, the line has something for everyone, and can be found online at ReplicantClothing.com or exclusively at Hot Topic stores.”

MOTLEY CRUE is very much alive and well, according to a recent online posting from bassist Nikki Sixx. According to Sixx, the band is in the middle of an extended break, which will see the group's members pursuing other projects before regrouping to record a new CRUE album, due out in late 2002 at the earliest. 'The book is done, the cover is in final approval stages,” stated Nikki. “[Guitarist] Mick [Mars] is working on his solo blues/funk project. [Former drummer] Tommy [Lee]'s new stuff sounds cool. More guitars, and I think the songs are more suited to his voice, so his stuff will appease. [Current drummer] Randy [Castillo] is doing much better. He's a strong mofo with a huge heart. Me? Writing lots, lots of production offers.”
